So, the reason why we rank Pike as the weakest member of Vox Machina is the fact that she is simply their healer. Of course, she also became a member of the early version of Vox Machina in the process of befriending Grog. And after Grog protected her, she searched for the big guy as a means of thanking him and ended up becoming his drinking buddy. She became a member of the group when she was protected by Grog when Wilhand got himself targeted by the Herd of Storms. The thing about Pike is that, while she is a religious person, she is actually one of the biggest drinkers on Vox Machina. That is why Pike proudly followed in the footsteps of her great-grandfather. In the past, the Trickfoot family used to be known for being thieves, but Pike’s great-grandfather, Wilhand, changed that. There were some plots that didn't get fully resolved, but that was true with C1 as well, and Matt said he might be interested in doing a mini arc with the C2 characters sometime in the future which might resolve some of the remaining plot threads one day.Pike Trickfoot is a gnome who is actually the most religious member of the group due to the fact that she has a great-grandfather who ended up worshipping the goddess known as Everlight. Despite some very real faults, I still think the campaign mostly stuck the landing. It halted the story's momentum for months and the socially distant set, while vastly superior to zoom or other video call solutions, still impacted the group's dynamic. Covid obviously had a big impact on this part of the show. The pacing can be a bit off in relationship to the narrative stakes at times, but there really is a lot to enjoy. There is a lot to like, some character dynamics get to be explored, NPCs get some pretty solid characterization, and the setting is cool. That said, the last arc of the show isn't terrible. It would probably be a easier task then working through C2's backlog. If you're interested in getting back into the show the new campaign starts in a week. As I said, there was still some good stuff in there and I can understand why the people who love that ending arc feel that way. I just think the last 1/4th of C2 wasn't up to the quality of the rest of it.

The whole campaign had a problem with pacing and by the end of the last arc I was really fatigued.Īll that being said, I don't want to imply I think the show turned to garbage or anything. Which I do understand was probably enjoyable for the players in a D&D game, but as an audience member of the show, it felt tacky. It just feels like the priorities shifted for the worse with this stuff. The stuff with Essek can also be fit into here. I won't bother going into all the story beats but I'm sure most know what I'm talking about. It starts to get really pandering and fan-service heavy. Then like 3/4ths through this gets thrown out the window, the main focus of the campaign solved without much effort from the party at all, and we take a HARD turn into very generic Heroes Stop The Bad Guy stuff. The entire campaign built itself on this morally grey conflict between two nations that seemed to be much more political and harder to navigate for the party, which worked because the party itself was very morally grey and deeper than the Hero Archetypes of C1. I think it just suffers from three key problems. I don't think the back end of C2 is worthless or anything, there's good stuff in there.
